A SUCCESSFUL HAEMODIALYSIS PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED ON A 9 YEAR OLD GIRL WITH KIDNEY DAMAGE AT NEW TOWN UNIT
Prerna, daughter of Mr. Ravinder Kumar, a 9 year old girl from Dhanbad, Jharkhand was referred to Neotia Bhagirathi Woman and Child Care Centre, New Town with severe respiratory distress, swelling, no urine production and previous medical history of kidney failure. She was under the treatment of Dr. Sumantra Kumar Raut (Consultant, Paediatric Nephrology, NBWCCC NT) and Dr. Somenath Gorain (Consultant, Paediatric & Neonatal Critical Care, NBWCCC NT). Haemodialysis procedure was being performed on the girl with critical care team involvement and specialised dialysis management. The dialysis was performed and within few days her distress improved and the swelling got dissolved gradually. On the basis of investigations done, she was diagnosed with kidney damage with the help of nephro-uro experts. The parents were briefed about her problem and was briefed about the long term plan i.e kidney transplantation. To stabilise her condition she was performed with several haemodialysis without any infections for two months. The child is in stable condition now and she is referred to other unit for kidney transplantation.
